Although never built exactly as depicted by Le Corbusier in 1914, the slab-and-column concrete frame with stair became a fundamental diagram for the design and construction of modern architecture in the 20th century. In the hands of AA School director Brett Steele and his students, the Maison Dom-ino is reconsidered as a contemporary, sustainable version, replacing the reinforced concrete with engineered timber. Carried out with the help of Swiss engineer Jürg Stauffer, the installation celebrates the iconic drawing's 100th birthday and sits proudly in front of the Central Pavilion in the Giardini.
