Stockholm's Kjellander + Sjöberg designs the initial stage of a new sustainable urban neighborhood in Växjö, Sweden.
From Kjellander + Sjöberg: Centrally located in Växjö, a new sustainable neighborhood is taking shape as the urban development project Bäckaslöv now goes from plan to implementation stage. The initial DDP is completed and Kjellander + Sjöberg, teamed up with developer Skanska, has won the land transfer competition for the block Skärvet, the area’s starting point to the east.

The proposal defines an urban block around a large, green park space consisting of existing vegetation and forest. The project contains a rich mix of housing forms for families, students and elderly as well as commercial units, thus creating a socially sustainable context across generations. The block is given a unique urban character, combined with a small-scale, diverse architectural timber expression. The project comprises of 190 residential units, a school, an elderly nursing home as well as commercial units with a total gross floor area of over 20,000 square meters.
