Celebrating Olmsted

Frederick Law Olmsted, together with Calvert Vaux, designed New York City's Central Park and therefore needs no introduction; it was Olmsted's first landscape design and remains his most famous. The scope of Olmsted's contributions to other parks and landscapes across the United States is immense, but often those places are overlooked by the 843-acre park in the center of Manhattan. What's Out There Olmsted, launching on April 26, will draw attention to more than 300 landscapes in the US and Canada designed by Olmsted and his successor firms, including the Olmsted Brothers, founded and led by two of his sons. What’s Out There Olmsted is not alone in celebrating the bicentennial of Omsted's birth.
