On October 20 the Sydney Opera House turned 40, celebrating the milestone birthday of Jørn Utzon's masterpiece with a month of festivities: an anniversary concert, exhibitions, an architecture & design symposium, a website, a series of short films, and of course operas. The short films were created as a four-part mini series called "A Part of Us," exploring how the iconic building has become a part of the city's collective identity. A Part of the House, A Part of Me, A Part of Everyone, and A Part of Tomorrow (as well as two more videos made on the 40th anniversary) can be watched in the playlist below.
While Sydney and Australia take great pride in the Sydney Opera House, so does Denmark, the late Jørn Utzon's home country. As part of the building's 40th anniversary, the exhibition Danish Design at the House is taking place from 25 October - 11 November in the building. As a preview of the exhibition, and a means of espousing the quality-of-life designs of Danish buildings, furniture, and urban spaces, the city of Copenhagen put together the short film City for Life.
