Design Within Reach has selected three winners in its annual Champagne Chair Contest, which asked entrants to "create a miniature chair using only the foil, label, cage and cork from no more than two champagne bottles."
DWR announced the winners on 12 February on their blog, Design Notes. Each of the three winners are first-time entrants, though each took a different approach in terms of form and materials: Bruce Hirschman's first-place design is made entirely from cork, though Jeffrey Burke Whitten's third-place design is made from everything but the cork, and Zach Martin's second-place design is made from cork and cage.
The contest was juried by DWR Founder Rob Forbes, designer Lucia DeRespinis and the founders of Egg Collective, Stephanie Beamer, Crystal Ellis and Hillary Petrie. Visit the DWR blog for more information on the winning designs.
First Placer: Crescent Chair by Bruce Hirschman
Second place: Bubbly Chair by Zach Martin
Third Place: Piper Beach Chair by Jeffrey Burke Whitten
