Five installations have been selected for Ice Breakers, a winter-themed public art exhibition that will be on display from January 19 to February 24, 2019, along Queens Quay West in Toronto, Canada, enticing people to visit the waterfront during the coldest part of the year.

The four competition winners — plus a student project — include a cluster of buoys, a bundle of cables, "sculptural columns of starlight," yellow gates mounted with bells, and a kaleidoscopic shelter. Two of the winners hail from Toronto, while one is from Hamburg, Germany, and another is from Athens, Greece; the fifth is a student installation contributed by Ryerson University. All of the winners have about six weeks to turn their digital images into real-life installations that can stand up to the frigid temperatures and art lovers interacting with them.

The third annual Ice Breakers exhibition is presented by PortsToronto in collaboration with Winter Stations and the Waterfront Business Improvement Area. Visit the Waterfront BIA website for more information on the exhibition and the winning designs.
