Layout of four-part "An Eames Celebration"
Last weekend the Vitra Design Museum opened An Eames Celebration, a four-part exhibition on designers Charles and Ray Eames that is situated in four buildings (Museum, Gallery, Schaudepot, Fire Station) on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, Germany.
Typically when the Vitra Design Museum puts on an exhibition, it is located within the Museum designed by Frank Gehry from 1989 – sometimes extended into the nearby Gallery that Gehry added to the campus in 2003. But An Eames Celebration occupies Gehry's Museum and Gallery plus two more buildings: Zaha Hadid's Fire Station from 1993 and Herzog & de Meuron's Schaudepot, which opened last year.
The four exhibitions are:
- Museum: Charles & Ray Eames. The Power of Design
- Gallery: Play Parade. An Eames Exhibition for Kids
- Fire Station: Ideas and Information. The Eames Films
- Schaudepot: Kazam! The Furniture Experiments of Charles & Ray Eames
