Entries for the 2017 World Architecture Festival are due Friday 2 June at Midnight BST.
The World Architecture Festival (WAF) will take place, for the second year in a row, at the Arena Berlin in Germany, from 15-17 November 2017. For this year's festival, the theme will be "Performance." What does this mean, exactly? According to WAF Director Paul Finch:
There are 30 categories to choose from – not just performance spaces – for architects interested in entering their projects by Friday. Although described as the "Oscars of Architecture," WAF's best-in-show format is more reminiscent of the Westminster Dog Show. Winners in the completed-building categories move on to the Super Jury presentations, when the World Building of the Year is determined. This year's Super Jury is made up of chair Robert Ivy, Chief Executive Officer of the American Institute of Architects; Nathalie de Vries, Director & Co-founder of MVRDV; Ian Ritchie, Founder of Ian Ritchie Architects; and Christoph Ingenhoven, Founder of Ingenhoven Architects. We will examine the multiple aspects of performance that architecture has to embrace: aesthetic, technical, economic and psychological. We will be discussing buildings designed for performance – for example theatres and concert halls – but also the role that buildings play in the life and spectacle of the city itself.
Head over to the WAF website to enter your projects today.
