The Architecture Drawing Prize, curated by Make Architects, Sir John Soane’s Museum and the World Architecture Festival (WAF), received 166 entries. Three winners were announced this week.
Entries were submitted in three categories – Digital, Hand-drawn, Hybrid – and 38 drawings were shortlisted, to be displayed at WAF in Berlin next month. From the shortlisted entries, the jury (artists Ben Langlands and Nikki Bell, Narinder Singh Sagoo of Foster + Partners, Ken Shuttleworth of Make Architects, Owen Hopkins of the Sir John Soane’s Museum, and WAF's Jeremy Melvin) selected three winners:
- Digital: Deepwater Purgatory by Christopher Wijatno. The drawing depicts a prison moored like an oil rig in deep water, something the judges felt evoked Piranesi and Dante.
- Hand-drawn: Scenarios for a Post-Crisis Landscape by Dimitrios Grozopoulis. The drawing of a post-industrial landscape was described by the jury as having "a haunting quality" and "an extraordinary control of line."
- Hybrid: Momento Mori: a Peckham Hospice Care Home by Jerome Xin Hao Ng. Depicting multi-generation social interaction in such settings, the drawing was part of Ng's diploma project at The Bartlett School of Architecture.
