As discovered at Spoon & Tamago, the new building was actually completed in 2014, though its opening was recently announced on the museum's own website. As described at Spoon & Tamago, "the ground level will house the entrance and gift shop. Floors 2 and 3 will be exhibition spaces for Kusama’s works while the 4th floor will be dedicated to the artist’s Instagram-friendly immersive installations. The 5th floor will serve as a reading room dedicated to storing documents and material relating to Kusama and her work. It will also contain an outdoor space."

The "Instagram-friendly immersive installations" refer to Kusama's famous Infinity Rooms, which the artist has installed in galleries and museums around the world. While clearly appealing to architects for their spatial qualities, she has also confronted architecture head-on, such as when she covered Philip Johson's Glass House last year with red dots of various sizes.

According to the Yayoi Kusama Museum website, tickets for the inaugural exhibition, Creation is a Solitary Pursuit, Love is What Brings You Closer to Art, go on sale via the website starting 28 August 2017.
