The urban planning concept envisages an axial alignment, in which the terminal is presented as the main building and principle structure of the entire airport facility.
The open space is a staged presentation that includes elements from the Märkisch countryside such as pine forests, dunes, meadows, water, gardens, streets and plazas.
These themes accompany the visitors on their way to the terminal, as the route leads through the streets and tracks of the Midfield Garden, with its meadow dunes and pine forests, before reaching the Airport City garden with its strips of ground covering and hedge elements. The landscape elements of the garden merge seamlessly with the Airport City via the Willy-Brandt-Platz and the side streets.
The Willy Brandt Platz it the heart of the urban space in the Airport City and is situated as a stone, urban square and entrée in front of the terminal.
Tree-lined avenues link the plaza and the garden and a wide water axis reinforces the themes city and landscape and also mobility and dynamics by a staged presentation of fountains.
