The museum is a part of the historical quarter of Dubai. Located at the heart of this quarter is the „Union House“ in which the United Arabic Emirates was founded on 2nd December 1971. The museum itself consists of a pavilion building of approx. 2,000 m² as well as a large underground museum section of some 10,000 m² that accommodates the museum galleries and a so-called Education Centre. The pavilion building above the ground is embedded in a garden landscape.
