By carving into this pyramid-shaped structure with its peak on the western side, the architects opened up lines of sight while maintaining privacy. Their handling of the volume creates the impression that the openings have been cut sharply into a softly-finished wooden box, whose horizontal plank façade projects a gentle presence within the streetscape. The design controls both lines of sight from the street into the house, and the presence of the volume in relationship to the street.
