The main building of Shopping City Süd (SCS) dates from 1975 and was expanded in 1987 by the addition of more retail space, a parking deck and an office center. The objective of the refurbishment planned by ATP architects engineers was to carry out essential maintenance work and safety and optical improvements as well as to improve the functioning of the shopping center in such a way that it is both technically improved and made more attractive to shoppers.
The façade has been thermally improved and the entrances to the center and the gastronomy and sales areas within the mall has been redesigned. A clear sequence of attractive routes and squares and a new orientation system have been introduced. The refurbishment of the roof to the original building makes it possible to bring more daylight into the mall. The refurbishment was planned in such a way that the center can operate throughout, with the duration of works kept to a minimum and safety optimised during every phase.
