BRIEF: The new construction of a child care center for 7 groups
ADDED VALUE: The special facade not only becomes integral to the image of the new kindergarten but also offers differentiated room elements that provide the children with a creative interior landscape.
The two-level construction is located on the edge of a park-like area belonging to the urban premises of the Beiersdorf AG in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel. The rectangular building is organized around a very compact, central multi-purpose space serving as an area for playing and communication. Inspired by the history of the Beiersdorf AG, the design references the functionality of a pharmacist’s cabinet, in an abstract way. As a shelf-like structure, the facade can react to various functions and requirements and likewise provides, via its generous glazing of the group and recreation rooms, a bright and transparent ambiance – simply the best conditions for playing and pedagogical work. Colored frame inserts give both structure and design to the exterior facade, offering the children orientation and identification with their groups. Inside, they find correlating or supplemental inserts, diversified playtime cubicals in the form of pedestals, boxes, and climbing cubbies to stimulate a child’s imagination.
At the end of November, the crèche was awarded a gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
