The high-rise ensemble “Westend First” and “Romeo & Julia” in Frankfurt’s Westend district is rooted in a design-driven re-interpretation of two 1970s buildings. In the light of the demands of the exclusive downtown location, the redesign focused on improving the architectural and technological quality of the existing building fabric to meet the standards of modern buildings. Thanks to the finely measured reconfiguration of the structure and facades, the ensemble now chimes much more closely with the surrounding Gründerzeit architecture. Each of the buildings was re-defined as an aesthetic whole. Structural additions on the lower floors of the “Romeo & Julia” building have melded the formerly distinct towers into one single form. Nuanced treatment of various facade areas structures the facade of “Westend First” into a base section, main corpus and attic zone. The complex boasts almost 23,000 m² office space behind the carefully detailed aluminium and glass facades.
