In 2011 a 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit near Christchurch, New Zealand, killing nearly 200 people and resulting in a residential "Red Zone" containing 16,000 homes slated for demolition. In response, Australian artist Ian Strange (aka Kid Zoom) created "Final Act," a multimedia project that treats the homes as canvases for cutting and illumination.
The project is part of Canterbury Museum's "Rise" street art exhibition running until 23 March. This short film documents the making of the piece and its filming by one of New Zealand's most celebrated cinematographers.
