The European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe have announced the 40 shortlisted works selected by the jury for the 2019 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award.
The 383 works nominated for the prize were announced in December 2018. From that list the jury (Dorte Mandrup, George Arbid, Angelika Fitz, Ștefan Ghenciulescu, Kamiel Klaasse, María Langarita and Frank McDonald) selected the shortlist of 40 works from which 5 finalists will be announced in February.
The 40 works are located in 16 countries, with close to half consisting of cultural projects and smaller percentages of educational, housing, mixed-use, industrial, and other uses. The shortlisted works are listed below; visit the EU Mies Award website to learn more about the projects.
The winner of the 2019 EU Mies Award will be announced at a special event at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona on May 7th.
