ART INSTALLATIONS & INTERACTION TRANSFORM FROST ART MUSEUM GALLERY:
As part of the esteemed Frost Art Museum on the Florida International University (FIU) Campus, it was essential that the redesign of the first floor gallery would welcome, orient and engage visitors – university students, staff, children and museum-goers – to culture-rich installations ripe for discovery.
During planning, critical factors for the success of bridging art, technology and interaction were assessed alongside pragmatic complexities of a gallery not conditioned for displaying art. In a paradigm-shift, the experiential design commissioned artist installations, which could comfortably and securely reside in a renovated gallery. The responsible, artful approach strategically reused embodied energies, including existing walls, ceilings and infrastructure, while adding carpeting of 80% recycled fishing net content, sun screening and retrofitting track lighting with LEDs and UV filters, all of which effectively lowered temperature, humidity, and glare.
The resulting artworks create a responsive environment, where a multi-generational audience is inspired to be expressive and to make their own “marks” on the Frost Art Museum. Adding a rich layer of beauty, meaning and experience throughout the gallery and reaching outside make it a culturally-rich and entertaining threshold to a serious art museum.
Architecture Is Fun translated our thoughts, needs and wishes into creative solutions filled with joy, whimsy, environmental responsibility, and always a great aesthetic sensibility. The result is awesome and gives museum-goers of all ages a sense that the Gallery was created with them in mind, to freely explore the artful world around them.
