The new metropolitan landscape of Paris
This reinventer.paris project offers a unique opportunity to transform the metropolis at a highly strategic spot: the Boulevard Périphérique (ring road). The team is proposing to metamorphosis this area into a shared landscape, to create openings and continuities, and to weave into it a network of gardens extending well beyond the site to connect Paris and Neuilly, from the Bois de Boulogne all the way to the Porte de Champerret.
The ring road is crossed by the landscape-bridge, an inhabited structure where the covered markets, shops, a school of urban horticulture, and a coworking space are located. It is covered by a garden accessible to the public, with openings all round onto the public space.
Above the landscape-bridge are the units of housing and offices. Their structures have been designed to allow them to evolve and expand with the city as it progresses with its plans for regeneration.
The roofs are connected to create an urban farm dedicated to growing the first crop of Parisian tea. Shared Pavilions enable the occupants and of housing and offices to take advantage of this extraordinary garden.
With the planted balconies and the landscape-bridge, the system in 3D as a whole plays the role of environmental machine, contributing to the pleasure of living together in a different way in the city.
The Porte des Ternes is welcoming a building that is one-of-a-kind yet respectful of its context, and one that reconnects with the Parisian scale. This generous and open project is designed to enhance the experience of local inhabitanbts. Here, the ring road becomes a landscaped plaza of Grand Paris (Greater Paris), a public prototype for a new landscape for the Parisian metropolis.
