The Safe House Black Historic Museum documents the struggle for equality at the local level along with other highlights of the Civil Rights Movement in Hale County. The museum is housed in a small shotgun house in the Depot neighborhood, a home where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once sought refuge from the Ku Klux Klan.
