In the heart of San Francisco’s tech-centered SOMA district, MSLA collaborated with Pfau Long Architects to create an animated courtyard for a new office building. The courtyard features a glass roof that makes the outdoor space climatically comfortable and functions as a sustainable water feature. The roof’s valley dramatically collects rain water, spilling it into a sculptural cistern at the court’s terminus. Punctuating a central spine, a family of customized furnishings are versatile and allow people to congregate and work informally in multiple configurations. The courtyard provides a seamless inside-outside connection, strongly integrating architecture and landscape.
