The brief of “each floor to a family within a family” was translated into four movement patterns that are interlinked two ways. The movement paths are sandwiched between terracotta block screens forming a threshold between the house and the street. The railings and cabinet shutters can drop down to become wooden floor that segregate spaces to facilitate large gatherings or solitary indulgences, giving each activity and person its own place and space under one roof. The ground and the terrace floors are intended to host plants and creepers that would grow over the rustic exposed concrete and terracotta blocks structure making it a soft breathing built form. The solar energy and rain water are guided to the centre of the house through multiple courts to get stored, used and replenished everyday and every season for years to come.
